Judgment, a word that can evoke an emotional response and end up circling around to bite you back. Whether we like it or not, we all utilize some form of judgment in our day. What we don’t acknowledge is judging others may truly just exemplify a reflection of where we judge ourselves and feel we fall short.  For example, someone cuts you off driving down the street and sets off a tirade of judgment and negative energy.  That driver is long gone and you are still carrying with you the negative impact of that experience. How is that energy going to impact the rest of your day or the next hour? Have you not ever made an error in judgment while driving? Where does judgment play in your day? What would happen if you let go of all judgment, yourself included? Coaching with a client last week we came up with this great shifting tool, and she agreed to sharing it.

When you catch yourself placing judgment, picture the word G.R.A.C.E. What font are you using and what color are your letters? Truly picture it.

  1. G is for God, who loves you just as you are.
  2. R is for Redeemed, as Jesus gave his life for us or Real if you are more comfortable with that.
  3. A is for Acceptance.
  4. C is for Caring & Compassion.
  5. E is for Enough.

Each time you catch yourself in the act of judging, visualize G.R.A.C.E. and what it stands for. This visualization creates a new level of  mindfulness around the act of judging.  Once you create the habit utilizing the visual word G.R.A.C.E. and what it means to you, you enable yourself to create the mindfulness to make the shift to a more positive state. In other words, lose the lousy mood that affects how you show up the rest of the day.
